UP N' ATOM brands

We're a small wholesale tea business located in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Santa Cruz California.

Our original Black Tea Chai was first brewed commercially in 1991 and served in a downtown coffee house.
Its popularity has been spreading ever since.
While mostly in the S.F. Bay area, Natural Food stores and coffee houses from Oregon to Colorado now serve and sell our Chai.

After chopping the spices, we carefully weigh and mix them to make our Chai blends. Few changes have taken place in the recipe over the years. In 2006 we started using organic teas and started making the Green Tea Chai.

Mostly our whole spices are purchased from a reliable New York importer in larger quantities to keep costs down and to keep the product having a consistent flavor. Seasonal changes in crop flavors are mostly unnoticed.

To brew the Chai

we offer some tips for first timers, but encourage experimentation until you find the strength and flavor of the brew matches your tastes.

Bring to a boil 3 to 4 quarts of water.
Lower the heat to a very low simmer and add 1/2 to 2/3s cup spice blend.
Let simmer for 20 to 30 minutes.
Turn off heat and let sit to settle, then strain and sweeten with your choice
of sweetener. Traditionally Chai is very sweet, but you'll have to choose how sweet you like.
Well suggest 1/2 to 3/4s cup honey or sugar.
Put in a jar and store in your refrigerator to reheat a cup or pot at a time.

You can always brew larger or smaller quantities depending on your needs. Just make adjustments in spice amounts and simmering times.

Serve 2 parts Chai with 1 part milk or soy or...
It can be enjoyed hot or iced.
